| News Update - July 2006 | ||||||||||||||
| Once again we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our guests for making the season to date a success! | ||||||||||||||
| Early season fishing this year was fantastic and as predicted continues to be great! Since the previous news release we have had well over 100 Lake Trout caught over 25Lbs. with the majority being in the 35 to 45Lb range. Congradulations to Patrick (Mac) MacMillan, who as part of the Peter Ullrich party caught a 50Lb Lake Trout on the day of their departure, as well the group released 3 Trout at 44Lbs, one at 41Lbs and multiple fish in the 25 to 40Lb range. Speckled Trout fishing to date has been and remains great! With many guests reporting catches and fish averaging 3 to 7 Lbs. On a recent day trip for brookies, Mary and I caught and released 9 trout over 3 Lbs. with 4 being over 5Lbs. The Jackfish river as always is awesome with the number of fish you catch being dependant only on the lenght of time you fish, as you will literally catch a fish with every cast. Other area lakes this year are producing more and bigger fish as they just seem to be "ON", and North Wind lake has provided 2 guests this year with walleye mounts over 10Lbs. Northern fishing as always is good all year with the inland lakes producing their usual and Lake Nipigon not slowing down, however mid or late season on the Big lake will find pike away from mainland shores and bays but congregating around offshore reefs and submerged weed bed structures. Bird Hunting this season promises to be productive as the dry summer has seen a good survival rate for ground nesting birds. Grouse, spruce hens and woodcock are plentiful and it appears this years hunt will be rewarding. Moose, due to the bugs and summer heat have been active with many groups reporting 4 to 5 sightings on their way out the river to Lake Nipigon. The previous mild winter seems to have been favorable to the moose population as we have seen many cows with two calves and all appear healthy. Bears are abundant, there everywhere. Under hunting in previous years as well as a healthy food supply and a mild winter have all contributed to what promises to be a productive hunt, and patient, selective hunters may be rewarded with animals in the upward of 400 Lb range and beyond. |
