Early season Lake Trout was and continues to be great with many fish in the 30 to 40+lb range being caught daily.  Speckled Trout turned on early this year with the warm early spring and we have seen many fish in the 3 to 7lb range so far.  Those who have utilized our Charter Service this season have done well with 6 chartes between June 4 to 17 producing 19 Lake Trout up to 37.5lbs and 56 Speckled Trout up to 7lbs.
Walleye fishing as always is fantastic with all the usual lakes such as Onaman, Toronto, Frank, North Wind, Brennen etc. (as well as many unmentionable honey holes) producing well and we have seen an above average number of large walleye this year from some area lakes. Walleye fishing this season in the Onaman River is great as well, with fish averaging in the 2 to 6lb range.
Northern Pike as well turned on early and continues to be active in most area lakes right throughout the summer.  The two hot bays on Lake Nipigon, which our return guest fish regularily continues to provide some crazy northern fishing and to this point in mid June we have seen 40+ fish over 40 inches caught.

For our guests who will be attending later this season we think you can look forward to some great fishing opportunities and the weather seems to be co-operating as well.  Scenery as always is spectacular on Lake Nipigon with almost daily reports of moose sighting on the river going out, Caribou on the islands and one group which observed a Timber Wolf, the first they had seen in the wild, while on a day trip to Onaman Lake, and most days a walk down to the boat launch/marina area will provide the opportunity to view at least one Bald Eagle.
Marina improvements continue with the boardwalks and new fish cleaning fascilities in place, improved parking area and floating docks will be added shortly as well as safety lighting and benches.  A day use area has been added for boaters coming off Lake Nipigon for the night and a lighted walkway leading from the marina to the cabins should be done by late season.
Potatoes appear to be an unresolved issue with some groups reporting no problems crossing the border, yet others have their potatoes confiscated.  In order to avoid the unknown you may now place your order for potatoes with Onaman River Resort when booking or confirming your reservations and they will be in your cabin when you arrive.  We hope this will simplify things and no additional fee will be added to your bill, just the price of the potatoes.
Again, Thank you to all and please send us your digital photos via
e-mail or pictures by mail and we will gladly post them in the brag book.  Watch for future updates to this news letter and we will provide you with the latest fishing and hunting information so you may better plan your trip.  We enjoy your feedback so please don't hesitate to give us a call or e-mail.

Sincerly,

Robert
